  2. Oil isn’t radiactive it just contains more trace minerals that contain a higher reltavie abundence of an isatope. It probally isn’t an acual geiger counter but a a scillinator counter that just uses a solid doped Sodium iodide detector. The counter just measure diffrent energies of gamma radiation that are associated with that isotope. Uranium 238 gamma peak is of diffrent energy than a peak such as ceasium 137 that is 668Kev. And a geiger counter uses a geiger-muller tube NOT a vaccum tube.
