Lionel CDV-700 Geiger Counter Demonstration

Are you a wanna be geiger counter enthusiast? If so, purchase a working order of the CDV-700 for your first model. This was the first geiger counter to be issued by Civil Defense in 1962, although its usefulness was next to nothing when it came to high leveled amounts of radiation that the CDV-715 could measure. Good for us however, as it is quite sensitive and is able to detect the occasional stray beta particle from your background radiation. Although the CDV-715 is cheaper and more abundant, it can not accurately detect normal background radiation or detect anything other than gamma radiation. It is still a nice piece for cold war history enthusiasts and some radiation enthusiasts, but this would most likely not be the piece you would want for first time buyers.

  1. Geiger counters are kinda cool, but I think of them more as a novelty item, except if you’re like a nuclear plant worker. Still, cool video 😀

  2. You have contracted Radiation Poisioning.

It’d be fun to walk through a mass of people with that thing if it were wireless, seeing if anyone nearby is a mutant. 😀

  3. @Kkcomics It looks more like an ancient phone to be honest. xD I suppose I could get away from walking in a crowd with it.

  4. @livingsocks To simply put it, it makes that awsome authentic canned sound associated with radiation. ;D The videos in related have much better sound and picture quality though, along with shots of the needle on the meter moving.
