3: GAMMA SCOUT geiger counter / dosimeter review – PART THREE – radioactive materials stress test

GAMMA SCOUT dosimeter made by GAMMA SCOUT GMBH. the GAMMA SCOUT is a device that measures ionizing radiation (“radioactivity”) by using a geiger mueller tube. PART ONE contains general info and the equipment / software PART TWO contains a full review of the device itself PART THREE contains a stress test with various radioactive materials does YOUR company sell equipment to measure ionizing radiation? consider sending one of your devices to me for a review, then! at the expense of one device (as i’m intending to keep the device you’re sending me for reviewing), you can get FREE advertising for your product! keep in mind that i will tell the truth and my opinions cannot be bought for money, though – if your device is great, you’ll get a great review. if you dont trust your own device… well, better not yet send it to me, then, and get to improving your product first. 😉

yeah, especially if you imagine that the pilot was surrounded by many instruments like this… but, well, i guess in WWII, that was nothing much to worry about in the context of all things.

well, now the device works as it should work, it is a pretty good device indeed.
however, if you take those weird correspondence, the software and the price into consideration, well… but still, just by itself, it’s a pretty nifty tool.

  3. @bionerd23 Software:
    \\vvvvvv’gammascout’com\downloads’html

url without “-” between gamma and scout – there are vista and windows 7 32 AND 64bit drivers

  4. @Geomanb
oh, i didnt see that – thanks for the hint! i’ll check them out.
however, i still think it’s lousy to supply a really, really old software version with the brand new gamma scout model… the outdated manual (50 uSv/h) is one thing – an “errata” letter with that would suffice – but i think they should supply the latest software when shipping their devices.

  5. @bionerd23 I wrote an E-mail, hope thay change the driver-problem now.
The Gammascout is pricy, but I think it’s worth the money. They even use it in Garchin research facility.

i am very happy with the unit itself now it works, too, dont get me wrong – but saying stuff like “1000 uSv/h are nuclear core conditions” in their manual makes the company look VERY unprofessional. maybe they should charge 50 more euros for each device and therefor hire a person who knows their stuff to write the manual, and a software engineer to write new software… and a radiation protection officer for their in-lab tests. all that needs urgent improvement imo.

  7. @bionerd23 I fully agree.
Well I mean: You have a very high knowledge on this topic, perhaps they have got a job for you…

  8. i hate that sound. i think the tick and screech of a geiger is very scary. probably due to me being brought up during the cold war. (duck and cover drills in school and stuff, too!)
By the way, I really like the sound of your voice.

  9. @gekesulen
nope, i’m certainly not rich, lol, i just have certain priorities… i had to save for this device, too. 😉

  10. Any idea on how to make a very sensitive geiger counter at home?
I know you can just buy it, but that ruins all the fun.
